Mini Review: Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins

This book earns a 4.5/5 rating from me. What made me really enjoy this story was the main character, Sophie Mercer. Every sentence she uttered never failed to make me laugh. Rachel Hawkins did a really great job on this novel. With the witty wordplay and humor-filled lines from the main characters.

The reason why I didn't give a 5 star rating was that prior to reading this book, I was kind of expecting that there will be some kind of battle between the good and the bad, which was mainly influenced by some of the paranormal books I have read.

But over all, still a great novel and this still earns a place in my 'favorite books' shelf.

Review: Forever Too Far (Too Far, #3) by Abbi Glines

Warning: This review is not spoiler-free.

I don't really know how to put into words my thoughts for this book. I was neither discontented nor very much satisfied with how things had turned out. Nothing much really happened. There were no surprises, not much thrills-- save the ones from all the amazing sex-- so I was a little bit disappointed.

To synopsize, here's what happened: Dean Finlay visits his son because apparently, Nan is back with a vengeance. (Oh yeah, the girl managed to be back, fully bitchified after her not so short stint in the hospital from the accident.) He met Blaire. Adored Blaire. And Blaire, being the ever-so-generous and kind and loving and all the other adjectives thrown to her, told Rush that they should go help out with the Nan drama.

And it all went downhill from there.

As usual, Rush always chooses his sister first. Blaire couldn't take it anymore. She left Rush and went with her father. Rush got into his senses and followed Blaire. She forgave him. They made-up, which could only mean one thing-- MAKE-UP SEX!!!!

They planned their wedding. Got married. Then had the baby. The end.

(Oh, there's also a new character and a possible new love interest for Grant for the spin-off book based off him. I loved Harlow. She's a keeper!)

BEWARE OF THE RANTS:

I did not feel that it was necessary to include to the story some new characters like this girl named Della, who is Wood's girlfriend. Another psychotic bitch, Angelina, whom I assume was meant to be like Nan 2.0. Honestly, I think it was nice that we did get a glimpse of how the spin-off book based on Grant will go. I didn't really mind Grant's and Harlow's POVs being included in the story. What I didn't think was necessary was how Abbi Glines made some kind of 2.0 versions of the Blaire-Rush-Nan story by putting the Della-Woods-Angelina predicament by the end of the book. I mean, hello? This was supposed to be Blaire and Rush's happy ending, right? No need to add characters who will not even spice out the story but will just annoy the hell out of the readers. It sure did annoy the hell out of me!

On the other side..

I'm sad to let Blaire and Rush's love story go but I'm glad they finally had their happy ending. Abbi Glines sure did an awesome job in writing a story in which anyone, no matter how fucked up they think their life is, is still very much deserving and worthy of love. No one should ever be deprived of receiving and giving love, is what I learned from this story. It didn't really matter that there were some flaws in this book. What I think is much more important, is the message one book sends to the readers. So, thank you, Glines. I'm looking forward to reading more of your books.

First Post Ever!

Wow. I finally made a book blog! I actually didn't think I could pull this off. It's just that I already have accounts in every social networking sites there is possible. I just wasn't sure if I could still add another load to everything. But then, I thought to myself, I love books. Nothing should and would ever come before my love for them.  I could live without Facebook, Twitter, but not without books (and Tumblr!).

So this love shall be shared. And what more way could a girl share her love for books? By starting a book blog! And here it already is! This is my first post ever! I don't have a knack for graphics and web design. I suck at those kind of things so I already apologize for my blog's lackluster, dull design.

I shall take care of the theme later. Ciao for now!
